To provide Newired Content over cross-origin web applications Newired Overlay uses cross-origin Cookies and Local Storage. With upcoming changes in Google Chrome and MS Edge these cross-origin techniques will be disabled by default.
Newired addresses these changes by implementing a mechanism to request user permission to use Cookies and Local Storage for cross-origin guidance. This ensures compliance with browser policies while maintaining the integrity and functionality of Newired's guidance features.
How to Grant Storage Permission to the Newired Overlay
If third-party cookies are disabled/blocked then the following iframe should appear in the top-right corner.
Initialization of the Overlay is paused.
If third-party cookies are allowed, the necessary permissions are automatically granted, the iframe is not displayed, and Overlay initialization is not blocked.
After clicking the confirmation button, the browser should open its own Storage Access API confirmation pop-up.
(Mozilla Firefox does not open a pop-up but automatically grants permission to access storage).
After confirmation, the Newired Overlay should complete initialization and display the Launcher.
Missing Storage Access Permission
When Storage Access permission is missing, Newired Overlay shows a warning in the Launcher Panel.
How to Grant Already blocked Storage Access
If access to storage was blocked, it can be granted by using the "Reset permission" button in the "Site" menu, followed by reloading the page.
Known issues
When User decides to Block storage access permission then chromium based browsers (e.g. Google Chrome, MS Edge) does not provide this decision correctly. Due to that behavior Newired Overlay is asking for permission even though it was already blocked.
To prevent this, a user can utilize the "Do not ask again" button.
When a user wants to reset Storage Access permissions, they also need to reset the "Do not ask again" flag.
